WESTMINSTER, CA -- Today, Westminster Councilman Sergio Contreras’ campaign for Orange County Board of Supervisors District 1 announced that he finished in the top two in the March 3rd primary election, garnering 22.4% of the vote.  This will ensure that he will advance to a run-off with the incumbent supervisor in the November general election.

Reacting to the results, Councilman Contreras released the following statement:

"As a lifelong Orange County resident, I am deeply humbled and grateful to the voters of the 1st District for their vote of confidence and allowing me the opportunity to continue to fight for our shared goals and values. The results from the election show that the residents of the first district are ready for new leadership; 57% of the voters in this election voted against the incumbent. The voters have sent a strong message that they want an independent, common-sense approach from those who serve us in elected office, and leaders who are willing to take on the tough issues facing our county.

In the coming months, I will continue to build on my record of increasing access to affordable health care services and protecting jobs, both of which are top priorities as our community faces uncertainty due to the current pandemic. I also look forward to continuing to run a robust campaign that highlights my history of delivering results on the other issues that matter for our district — such as securing more funding to keep neighborhoods safe, improving our schools, tackling homelessness and standing up for working class families.

Together, we can ensure that Orange County remains the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family.”
